Person sorting through household goods to declutter before packing for house move

Declutter Before Packing

Go through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or discard. Moving less stuff saves you time, money, and makes unpacking much easier in your new home.

Moving boxes stacked and labeled clearly with room names for easy house relocation

Label Boxes Clearly

Label each box with its destination room (e.g., "Kitchen," "Main Bedroom") and a brief summary of its contents. Pro-tip: Label the sides of the boxes, not just the top, so you can identify them when stacked.

Essentials box with toiletries and snacks for first night after moving house

Pack a "First Night" Box

Keep a separate box with essentials you'll need immediately upon arrival: toiletries, a change of clothes, phone chargers, basic tools, snacks, and any important medications.

Hand holding important travel documents like passport and birth certificate for safe keeping during international move

Keep Valuables With You

Important documents (passports, birth certificates), jewellery, and sentimental items should be transported personally. Don't pack them in the moving van.

Measuring large furniture like a sofa to ensure it fits through the doorway before moving day

Measure Furniture & Doorways

Before moving day, measure your large furniture items (sofas, beds, wardrobes) and the doorways, stairwells, and hallways of your new home to ensure everything will fit without issue.

Taking a photo of the back of a computer or TV before unplugging wires for moving home

Take Photos of Electronics

Before you unplug your TV, computer, or other complex electronics, take a quick photo of the back. This will make reconnecting all the wires in your new home much simpler.
